Uzbek grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov finished in the top three at the "Sinquefield Cup—2026" tournament, which concluded in St. Louis, USA. For this result, the chess player received prize money of $42,500.
In the final, 9th round of the competition, one of the important stages of the "Grand Chess Tour" series, Sindarov, playing with the black pieces, drew with American Wesley So. The game ended after 44 moves.
All matches in the final round ended in draws. As a result, Wesley So and India's Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa each accumulated 5.5 points and shared first place in the tournament standings.
To determine the champion, a tie-break between the two players was held. In the decisive Armageddon game, Wesley So defeated Praggnanandhaa and became the winner of the competition.
In the tournament, which had a total prize fund of $475,685, Wesley So and Praggnanandhaa split the prizes designated for 1st and 2nd places equally. Thus, So received $87,500, while Praggnanandhaa received $77,500 in prize money.
Javokhir Sindarov and German representative Vincent Keymer, on the other hand, each scored 5 points and shared 3rd and 4th places. According to the tournament regulations, $50,000 was set for 3rd place and $35,000 for 4th place.
However, since the two players recorded the same result, the total of $85,000 allocated for these places was divided equally between them. As a result, each of Sindarov and Keymer received $42,500.
Thus, Javokhir Sindarov finished the "Sinquefield Cup—2026" tournament with a bronze medal and a prize of $42,500.
