The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Director-General of the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) Qu Dongyu on September 5th.
The leader of the prestigious sector within the United Nations system is currently in our country, participating in an international forum on the food security and sustainable development goals of landlocked countries being held in the city of Tashkent.
At the beginning of the meeting, the high-ranking UN official expressed deep gratitude to the leader of our state for successfully hosting the forum, which is attended by prestigious delegations from more than 30 countries around the world.
During the conversation, issues of further expanding the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and FAO in effectively dealing with modern risks and threats were discussed.
The satisfactory results achieved in practical cooperation in recent years were duly noted. In particular, the performance indicators of the country's program up to 2025 have improved twofold. Currently, 34 projects are being actively implemented. In the past year, 7 new projects have been launched in areas such as agriculture, school meals, veterinary, agrochemistry, and others.
The importance of preparing and adopting a new five-year partnership program was emphasized.
Special attention was given to promising joint projects and activities on digitizing the agro-industrial complex, exchanging advanced knowledge and experience, increasing the fertility of the land fund, production and processing of organic agricultural products, modernizing irrigation systems, establishing modern clusters and logistics centers, and conducting scientific research.
Moreover, discussions also took place regarding the global and regional situation related to food security.
