President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on November 4th on the transformation of the electric power sector and involving private operators in managing the regional electric networks. The president's press service reported this.
Measures are being taken to develop this sector in accordance with the demands of life. The processes of generating, transmitting, and distributing electricity have been separated into different companies, creating opportunities for investment. In the last five years, investments of 4 billion 300 million dollars have flowed into electricity production, creating 5.7 gigawatts of new capacities.
Four companies in the sector – “Uzbekistan National Electric Grids,” “Regional Electric Grids,” “Thermal Power Plants,” and “Uzbekhydroenergo” joint-stock companies – have achieved international credit ratings. The next step is to become competitive companies through transformation. This is a crucial factor both for ensuring reliable electricity delivery to consumers and for attracting investments independently.
The meeting discussed the related measures. Reducing costs was emphasized as the primary task for each energy company. This can be achieved through optimizing projects, reducing losses, and improving procurement.
By offering distribution networks to investors based on private partnership, it is possible to attract 4 billion dollars in investments for modernization. To this end, plans are in place to involve private operators in managing the networks in Samarkand, Jizzakh, and Syrdarya next year.
Instructions were given to accelerate the transformation of sector companies and to introduce modern management systems within them, as part of the competition market formation concept in the energy sector adopted last year.
The coming year has been strictly designated as a year of efficiency and effectiveness for energy companies. The task of transforming and digitizing the companies down to the lower divisions has been set.
Officials outlined their plans for effective cost management in these companies.
