Scientists explained the reason for this.

Despite the overall decline in birth rates in many countries, the incidence of twins is recording the highest figures, according to a report by zamon.uz.

Researchers associate this phenomenon with the increase in the age of women during pregnancy and the increase in the use of assisted reproductive technologies (ART).

Since the 1990s, the increase in the use of ART methods such as IVF has significantly impacted the rise in multiple pregnancies. In the initial stages of IVF, several embryos were often transferred, which increased the probability of multiple pregnancies by up to 28 percent.

While the birth of twins and triplets often brings joy, such pregnancies are associated with an increased risk. Twins have a 60 percent chance of being born prematurely, and nearly all triplets or more are born prematurely. This increases the likelihood of complications in the early stages of a child's development.
