Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi expressed an open position on the deployment of US nuclear weapons within the country's territory. According to her, at a time when security cooperation between Tokyo and Washington is becoming increasingly important, it is time to discuss this issue, writes "Zamon.uz".

The "Three Non-Nuclear Principles" — not possessing, not producing, and not permitting the introduction of nuclear weapons into Japanese territory — which have been in effect in the country since the 1960s, are considered Japan's fundamental nuclear policy. According to Takaichi, it is precisely the third principle — not permitting the introduction of nuclear weapons — that could limit the US capabilities in defending Japan.

Official Tokyo, in particular, emphasizes that the ban on deploying nuclear weapons on US military bases and ships entering Japanese ports complicates the response to increasing regional threats. Therefore, the Prime Minister noted that such restrictions must be reviewed from a national security perspective.
