During a rapid operation conducted by the National Security Service officers in collaboration with the Department under the Prosecutor General's Office, the deputy mayor of Chirchik city was caught at the time of receiving 1 million dollars.
Using his official position, the deputy mayor promised to help in auctioning off 20 hectares of land from the city municipality's reserve for the establishment of a cluster-type trading complex, in return for an investment of 40 million dollars, winning the auction, and formalizing the right to own the land for a period of 49 years.
In exchange, he demanded 2 million dollars and was caught while receiving an advance of 1 million dollars through his driver.
Currently, a criminal case has been initiated against the deputy mayor, who took a very large bribe by exploiting his official position, under Article 210, Part 3, Subsection "a" (Taking a bribe in a large amount) of the Criminal Code, and a pre-trial detention measure has been applied.
For reference, Article 210, Part 3, Subsection “a” of the Criminal Code is punishable by imprisonment for ten to fifteen years.
