An art exhibition in Japan featuring two robot dogs attempting to attack visitors has sparked a lot of debate, reports zamon.uz.
This exhibit, presented within the framework of the Japan Agency for Cultural Affairs program to develop media arts, is created by robotics designer Takayuki Todo.
The exhibition showcases an artwork called “The Dynamics of a Dog on a Chain”. It features two robot dogs that are chained and have the ability to perform aggressive actions. According to video footage, one is standing near a pole while the other tries to move forward and approach people, but the chain pulls it back. It tries to repeat the attack motion several times.
Exhibition visitors are given warnings about the robots' aggressiveness. There are hardly any protective measures – only a yellow warning line is present. The exhibition management is compelled to frequently put the robots on a break as their electronics tend to overheat quickly. Hence, guests are asked to wait until they are “re-activated”.
Although the exhibition has sparked public debate, it is emphasized to be an experiment aimed at exploring the boundaries between technology and art.
