The President got acquainted with the proposals to increase energy efficiency on February 19th.

This was instructed in a meeting on the development of electric power industry held on January 28th.

In our country, energy capacities are being increased in accordance with the growing demand of the population and sectors of the economy. Specifically, last year 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 81 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were produced.

By 2035, electricity consumption is calculated to increase 1.7 times more than the current rate. To fully meet this demand, not only production but also conservation is necessary.

According to analyses, in Uzbekistan, 2.5 times more energy is being consumed to create one dollar's worth of gross domestic product than the global average. Losses in electric grids are above 14 percent, and for natural gas, it is over 7 percent.

Therefore, scientists are being involved to study the possibilities of saving energy at the local level on a scientific basis. So far, opportunities to economize 4.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and 1 billion cubic meters of gas have been identified in 7 regions.

The presentation discussed proposals developed based on such studies.

For example, by replacing old pumps in water management with modern ones, it is possible to save 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. Upgrading boilers in social institutions and using "green" energy can save 5 million cubic meters of gas and 15 million kilowatt-hours of electricity this year.

In general, it is planned to save 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas and 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity this year. To achieve this, scientifically based measures will be delivered to each enterprise and organization.

In particular, large industrial enterprises will set a standard of energy usage per unit of product, which itself reduces energy consumption by 5-10 percent. Targeted programs for installing energy-saving equipment in social facilities will be approved.

In multi-story buildings, insulation to preserve heat will be expanded. In residential homes, affordable credits will be provided for installing helio collectors and solar panels. Consumers will be educated on energy savings proficiency based on the Japanese experience.

The head of our state emphasized the importance of conservation in all sectors of the economy, social sphere, and residential areas. Strict instructions were given to reduce energy wastage and prevent abuses across regions and sectors.
