Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian and government officials issued a serious warning about the unprecedented water crisis that has emerged in Tehran. It was reported that the drinking water reserves in the capital have sharply decreased and could run out within two weeks. Due to the possibility of the situation getting out of control, the issue of temporarily evacuating more than 10 million people is being discussed. Zamon.uz reported on this.
According to Behzad Persian, head of the Tehran Water Supply Company, one of the five main reservoirs supplying water to the city, the Amir Kabir Dam, currently holds only 8 percent of its capacity, which is 14 million cubic meters of water. For comparison, during the same period last year, this indicator was 86 million cubic meters.
As a result of a sharp decrease in precipitation during the spring and summer seasons, the water level in the reservoirs has seriously dropped. This has also had a negative impact on surface and underground water sources. Tehran's daily water consumption is close to 3 million cubic meters, and in recent days, water supply has already begun to be restricted in some areas.
