In Uzbekistan, currency exchange operations between the population and banks increased significantly. In the first half of 2026, the volume of foreign currency sold by citizens to banks exceeded the amount they purchased from them by 5.5 billion dollars.
This was reported in the Central Bank's review of currency operations of individuals.
In January–June, the turnover of currency purchase and sale operations between banks and the population amounted to 19.1 billion dollars. This is 31 percent or 4.5 billion dollars more than in the same period last year.
During the reporting period, banks purchased foreign currency worth 12.3 billion dollars from the population. This is 35 percent more than in the first half of 2025. The currency sold by banks to the population increased by 26 percent, reaching 6.8 billion dollars.
Thus, the currency purchased by banks from the population exceeded the amount they sold to them by 5.5 billion dollars. A year earlier, this difference was 3.7 billion dollars.
59 percent of currency exchange operations, i.e., 11.2 billion dollars, were carried out through exchange offices. Through online services, operations worth 7.5 billion dollars were performed, accounting for 39 percent of the total turnover.
In addition, operations worth 404 million dollars were carried out through currency ATMs. This figure increased by 61 percent in a year.
According to the Central Bank, the volume of foreign currency offered by the population to banks is increasing. The share of individuals' net currency supply in total exchange turnover increased from 26 percent to 29 percent in a year.
