The WHO has developed a guide to reduce the risk of antibiotic residues.

Bacteria resistant to antibiotics are causing the death of 5 million people annually worldwide. If necessary preventative measures are not taken, this figure could reach 10 million by 2050.

This growth dynamics also has a significant impact on the process of producing pharmaceutical waste from antibiotics, reports the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Health in the news.

Because this type of waste not only causes environmental pollution, but also creates conditions for the emergence of microbes resistant to existing drugs and their mutation.

Taking this into account, the World Health Organization, in collaboration with international experts, scientific circles, and regulatory bodies, has developed the first guideline for managing antibiotic waste.

It contains a number of recommendations for companies producing antibacterial drugs, regulatory authorities, and environmental inspectors.

Moreover, through the guide, ordinary consumers can also gain precise information on how to dispose of unused, expired, or improperly stored antibiotics.
