President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was informed about the ongoing work and prospective plans in the field of sports. The President's press service reported this.

First of all, attention was paid to the issues of further expanding mass sports and the Olympic movement. Recently, at the Olympic and Paralympic Games held in Paris, Uzbek athletes won a total of 39 medals, ranking 13th among hundreds of countries. This was the highest result in the history of our country's sports.

In a meeting with the winners and medalists of these prestigious competitions, our state leader emphasized the need to start preparing for the games to be held in Los Angeles in 2028, increasing the number and types of qualifications.

Based on this, the Ministry of Sports, the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees critically analyzed the unused opportunities in various sports again.

For example, there are 48 programs for athletics and 49 programs for water sports at the Olympic Games. However, our representatives only participated with 5 and 4 qualifications, respectively.

There are both conditions and federations for tennis, shooting, gymnastics, and cycling. There are many untapped opportunities in Greco-Roman wrestling, equestrian sports, fencing, rowing. Team sports such as field hockey, basketball, handball, rugby, and water polo also need to be developed.

Tasks were set to revitalize the work of these sports federations and to improve the training system.

It was emphasized that the Olympic and Paralympic movement gains strength from mass sports, and instructions were given to expand the selection work in neighborhoods and to train talented youths as professionals.

As is known, next year, the Asian and Para Asian Games among the youth are planned to be held in our country. For this purpose, an Olympic town is being built in Tashkent.

During his visit there, our President said that this complex must become a scientific, practical, and training center for our country's sports.

Accordingly, after the Asian Games, effective use of the infrastructure of the Olympic town is planned. For this, an administrative management based on the “Smart City” concept will be organized. It will be responsible for maintaining sports complexes, monitoring the condition of equipment and technical systems, and repairing them when necessary. An annual plan for priority sports will be approved, and athletes from the regions will be organized to train in the Olympic town. Also, this structure will be granted the right to organize mass events, provide rental services, and other services.

When talking about the Olympic movement, it is necessary not to overlook the winter games. One of such sports is hockey.

Currently, there are 4 sports clubs and 3 sports facilities for this discipline. Our U-16 hockey team won the 1st place in the Asian and Oceania Cup in 2023. This year, this competition was held in Uzbekistan for the first time, and our U-18 team won the championship.

Based on these, proposals were made to develop this sport and to build a hockey complex in the area of the Olympic town later on.

Our state leader gave instructions on involving the population in physical education and mass sports, and systematically preparing for international competitions.
