On November 13, within the framework of the COP29 summit, a signing ceremony of the agreement on strategic partnership in the development and transmission of "green" energy between Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan took place.
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, speaking at the event, emphasized that renewable energy is not an economic goal, but a contribution to the future, a result of a sense of responsibility towards future generations.
The environmental significance of the project was particularly noted. The transmitted energy—wind and solar energy—is considered a renewable and clean source and provides an opportunity to mitigate climate impacts.
In this way, the parties support joint efforts to protect the climate within the framework of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.
It was emphasized that our countries possess vast reserves of renewable energy and can significantly contribute to the global energy transition.
On this occasion, our President specifically addressed the important aspects of the extensive work being carried out in this direction.
A major program for the rapid development of "green" energy has been adopted. Nearly 2 gigawatts of solar and wind power stations are being commissioned annually in our country.
In addition, by the end of this year, additional 2.6 gigawatts of renewable energy production capacities and 300 megawatts of energy storage systems will be connected to the grid.
By 2030, it is planned to increase the share of renewable energy sources to 40% as well as to create energy storage systems with a capacity of 4.2 gigawatts.
Confidence was expressed that all participants would feel the economic benefits of the launched project.
Tens of thousands of new jobs will be created, the energy infrastructure will develop, technological and business connections will expand. Most importantly, the standard of living of the population will improve.
The importance of accelerating the implementation of the project, including establishing joint ventures, developing and agreeing on technical documents, and other procedures, was noted.
In conclusion, the leader of our state affirmed Uzbekistan's firm commitment to jointly implementing this regional project.
