The European Union will lift sanctions imposed after the start of the civil war in Syria. This was announced by the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas.
"The European Union is committed to acting promptly on the issue of lifting sanctions. However, should the new government of Syria take “wrong steps,” the decision can be reconsidered" — Kallas warned.
The head of European diplomacy did not specify which sanctions would be lifted first.
For your information: The European Union began imposing sanctions against Syria in 2012, shortly after the conflict between Bashar Assad's regime and rebel groups escalated into a civil war. The imposed sanctions were mainly related to the government and military structures.
