Since 2023, Ravshan Usmanov has been working as the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United Kingdom and has become the country's first Ambassador to Iceland. This was reported by the "Dunya" news agency here.
He presented his credentials to the President of Iceland, Halla Tómasdóttir.
Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Iceland were established on September 25, 1997. The President of the country welcomed the appointment of an Uzbek Ambassador to this country for the first time in the history of bilateral relations.
The parties discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation and paid special attention to expanding ties in trade-economic, cultural, and tourism areas. Halla Tómasdóttir emphasized that cooperation in areas such as energy, high technology and digitalization, fisheries, tourism, and environmental protection would be mutually beneficial.
Ravshan Usmanov (born in 1978) was appointed as ambassador in London at the end of 2023. He is a graduate of the University of Birmingham (UK), the University of World Economy and Diplomacy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, and the Tashkent State Law Institute (currently a university). Usmanov has also served as ambassador to France, as well as on a non-resident basis to Italy and Portugal.
