A Sydney man found a nest containing 102 venomous snakes in his backyard. The man called Reptile Relocation, an organization that specializes in catching these crawlers called.
The snakes had built a nest in a pile of fallen leaves, and no one noticed them until one of them bit the homeowner’s dog. According to Cory Kerewaro, the head of Reptile Relocation, there were so many reptiles that additional help was needed to catch them.
Experts from the company caught 102 red-bellied black snakes in three hours. These venomous snakes are only found in Australia. Adult specimens can reach a length of two meters. Typically, this species is not aggressive and tends to flee from humans.
The venom of these snakes contains neurotoxins, myotoxins, and coagulants. It can lead to serious consequences in humans, but no fatalities have been recorded.
All the snakes caught in the area will be released into the wild near the Royal National Park. According to the scientific department of the Australian Museum, this species of snakes can gather in small groups during the breeding season, usually up to six individuals.
“Hunters have never found so many red-bellied black snakes in one place before,” — Cory Kerewaro emphasized.
