Due to the novelties in medicine and changes in the population demographics, the need for rehabilitation worldwide is expected to increase in the coming years. As a result of the increase in the average life expectancy, the number of people over 60 years of age is expected to double by 2050. The Press Service of the Ministry of Health reported this.
Moreover, the number of patients suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, stroke, and cancer is also increasing at the moment. At the same time, the rate of injuries and developmental disorders (e.g., cerebral palsy) in children remains high.
These pathological conditions can negatively affect a person's functional abilities and lead to an increase in disability levels. This proves how crucial rehabilitation is.
Taking these into account and with the aim of fulfilling the directives given by the leader of our state, the Ministry of Health has adopted an order to enhance the skills of family doctors and visiting nurses in the Kashkadarya region on "Home Rehabilitation".
According to this document, the experience of Kashkadarya in rehabilitation was initially launched in the cities of Karshi and Shahrisabz, and in Koson, Kitob, and Yakkabog districts. A one-month training program was developed for doctors and visiting nurses.
Currently, at the Center for the Development of Professional Competence of Medical Workers, 30 educators, doctors, and nurse instructors from the aforementioned regions are being prepared. Subsequently, the skills of visiting nurses in the Kashkadarya region will be improved by these specialists.
Thus, nearly, more than 1,800 medical workers will be taught to rehabilitate people at home during the months of April to November of the current year.
The seminar provides participants with extensive knowledge on creating new practices for the rehabilitation of people with disabilities based on international experience, focusing on future crucial tasks in this area. Particularly, the invitation of Mirjahon Turdiev, a researcher from Syracuse University in the USA, is noteworthy.
The training covers topics such as communication and psychological approaches, adapting the home environment for rehabilitation, organizing healthy nutrition for people in need of assistance, caring for children with disabilities, patients who have undergone surgical operations, and those suffering from oncological, endocrine, cardiologic, and pulmonologic diseases at home.
Experts believe that teaching simple exercises that can be performed at home, depending on the type of illness, can restore the health of thousands of people.
Moreover, the effectiveness of rehabilitation work carried out by doctors and nurses is assessed based on changes in the mobility, communication, and self-care of citizens with disabilities. Medical workers who achieve results are provided with additional remuneration.
In the future, it is planned to establish rehabilitation services in every regional and district hospital, and to increase the range of ergotherapy, physiotherapy, and therapeutic exercises services fivefold in 12 disability rehabilitation centers.
Also, rehabilitation departments will be opened in 7 medical universities, and professors-teachers will be retrained based on the experience of Korea. Experts from Korea and Japan will be invited to the Republic Rehabilitation Center, and the qualifications of local specialists will be enhanced.
