Graduates of classes where education is not in the state language will now take a mandatory exam in Uzbek.

In Uzbekistan, graduates of classes where the language of instruction is not Uzbek will now take exams in the state language. The Minister of Preschool and School Education, Hilola Umarova, issued a corresponding order on April 22.

According to the amendments and additions to the Regulation on the Final State Attestation of Students of General Secondary Education, the list of subjects, forms, and deadlines for final attestation in graduating classes are approved annually by the Ministry of Preschool and School Education.

In this case, the state language will be included in the block of compulsory subjects for schools where the language of instruction is not Uzbek.

Representatives of the supervisory board and citizens' self-government bodies may participate in the final certification as observers on a voluntary basis.

A student holding a national or internationally recognized certificate in foreign languages and general education subjects is exempt from the subject for which the final attestation is being conducted. In this case, the list of national and internationally recognized certificates in foreign languages and general education subjects is approved by the Ministry of Preschool and School Education.

Hilola Umarova announced in February 2025 that graduates of classes where the language of instruction is not Uzbek will now take the state language exam in Uzbekistan. The order of the Minister dated February 20 established the procedure for conducting final state attestation in general secondary educational institutions.

Based on this document, the list of subjects for final state attestation in general secondary educational institutions and the forms of examination, as well as the list of national and internationally recognized certificates for assessing the level of knowledge of general education subjects and foreign languages, have been approved.

According to it, the final state attestation of 9th-grade students:

native language and literature (for classes with Uzbek as the language of instruction) - in writing;

in the subject of the state language (for classes where the language of instruction is not Uzbek) - in writing;

in mathematics - in writing;

History of Uzbekistan - written/oral;

in the subject of physical education - in practical form.

Final state attestation of 11th grade students:

native language and literature (for classes with Uzbek as the language of instruction) - in writing;

from the state language (for classes where the language of instruction is not Uzbek) - in writing;

mathematics (basic) / mathematics (in-depth) - in writing;

in the subject of history - in writing;

At the student's choice:

native language and literature (for classes with instruction in Karakalpak, Russian, Kazakh, Turkmen, Tajik, Kyrgyz languages), biology, physics, chemistry, fundamentals of state law, geography - in writing;

in the subject of a foreign language in written/oral form.

The new order of the minister entered into force from the moment of its announcement.
