The Embassy of Uzbekistan provided practical assistance to a woman brought to India through deceit and at risk of becoming a victim of human trafficking, in returning to her homeland. This was reported by the "Dunya" news agency here.

The diplomatic mission's consular section received information from Indian law enforcement authorities about the identification of a citizen of Uzbekistan, Z.T., in a state of mental distress at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Subsequently, contact was established with the citizen, who was then brought to the embassy. During the investigation, it was revealed that Z.T. was offered a job as a waitress in one of the restaurants by two individuals. However, upon arriving in the country and checking into a hotel, she realized she had been deceived and demanded to be sent back to Uzbekistan.

However, the two individuals demanded that she cover the travel expenses they had incurred for her and attempted to force her into providing sexual services. Z.T. managed to escape from the place she was held and sought help from local police representatives.

The Embassy of Uzbekistan provided the woman with rapid consular and legal assistance, and with the support of sponsor organizations, a ticket for the Delhi — Tashkent flight was purchased.

Cooperation is underway with the relevant institutions of India to take legal action against individuals suspected of attempting to exploit the citizen of Uzbekistan by bringing her to Delhi, according to the report.

The diplomatic mission advises Uzbeks to be wary of falling prey to false promises from various suspicious groups or individuals before traveling to India, and to strictly adhere to local laws while entering and staying in the country.

In case of such incidents, the Embassy recommends contacting them immediately through the following means:

  • telephone: +91 11 2467 0774/75;
  • Telegram-bot: @consuluzbindia_bot.
