Today, on August 5, within the framework of the UN conference on landlocked developing countries, a meeting took place between the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. This was reported by the press service of the head of state.

It was noted that urgent issues of global and regional development were discussed, including the upcoming 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly.

Furthermore, the leader of Uzbekistan firmly supported the Secretary-General’s initiatives to reform the UN and its key institutions to adapt them to modern realities and ensure international peace and stability.

Special attention was given to expanding multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, as well as implementing the agreements reached during António Guterres’ visit to our country last July.

It was noted with satisfaction that 160 joint programs and projects are currently being successfully implemented.

In recent years, 13 resolutions of the UN General Assembly have been adopted at Uzbekistan’s initiative.

This year, leaders of key UN structures and institutions, including UN-Habitat and UNICEF, visited Uzbekistan, and the UN Women office was opened in Tashkent.

A joint forum on civil service issues was held. Active preparations are underway for the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand.

The country has entered the top five states in the Global Sustainable Development Goals Index. A new five-year cooperation program with the UN is expected to be signed to achieve the SDGs.

Issues of deepening integration in Central Asia and engaging Afghanistan in regional cooperation processes were discussed.

At the end of the meeting, the parties emphasized their readiness to further develop practical cooperation and expand joint programs and projects.
