A mosquito-borne disease is surging in China. The number of patients has reached 7,000. BBC reported on this.

According to reports, the area with the highest number of recorded cases is Foshan city, where the virus typically causes fever and severe joint pain.

Nearly 3,000 new cases have been detected in the country over the past week. The virus spreads through mosquitoes that bite infected individuals. Despite this, Chinese officials have stated that the virus is not contagious.

95% of patients recover within a week. However, the lack of information about the disease has caused concern among the public.

"This is very frightening. The prolonged pain must be excruciating," wrote one internet user.

In neighboring Hong Kong, a 12-year-old child developed symptoms of fever, rash, and joint pain after returning from a trip to Foshan city.

Meanwhile, the U.S. has urged its citizens to exercise caution when traveling to China. The government is implementing strict measures similar to those during the COVID-19 pandemic to curb the spread of the virus.
