A Chinese citizen, Chaofeng Ge, was found dead at the "Moshannon Valley Processing Center," a facility located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. This was reported by "ABC News."
It was noted that the Chinese detainee had been arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and had been placed in this center just five days prior.
The 32-year-old Ge was discovered with a noose around his neck in a shower area. During the investigation, a handwritten note was found at the scene, and no signs of criminal activity were detected. Authorities have assessed the incident as a suicide.
For reference, Chaofeng Ge was arrested by police in January on suspicion of credit card fraud. He pleaded guilty to the crime and was sentenced to between six months and a year in prison.
However, immediately after the court's verdict, he was transferred to an immigration detention center under ICE custody.
ICE's press service commented on the incident, emphasizing that medical and mental health screenings for detainees are conducted in a timely manner. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that such deaths are thoroughly investigated under strict oversight.
This incident has once again raised questions about how migrants are treated in ICE facilities and the level of attention given to their mental health.
