RIA Novosti reported, citing calculations, that the water in the reservoirs supplying Turkey's most populous city, Istanbul, will last for 75 days if there is no rainfall.

According to data from the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration, the reservoirs are currently 27.8% full (241.3 million out of 868 million cubic meters). This is the worst indicator in the last ten years, not counting 2023; around the same date last year, the reservoirs were 16% full.

Since April, reserves have been constantly decreasing from 80%. Of the ten reservoirs supplying the city with water, only one is now more than a quarter full, while four are less than 2% full.

The government, emphasizing that the city with a population of 16 million consumes approximately 3.18 million cubic meters of water daily, is calling on the population to save water. Meteorologists from the Istanbul municipality predict heavy rainfall next week.

Due to the drought in 2023, the city authorities stopped the water supply for parks and private avenues.
