According to Trump, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now promised him not to buy oil from Russia. This was stated by US President Donald Trump, who said that China is next. Trump said this during a conversation with journalists at the White House on October 15.
"I was unhappy that India was buying oil from Russia. Today, Modi confirmed to me that he is stopping this. This is a big step. Now we will force China to do the same," said Trump.
Previously, Trump imposed 25% import tariffs on India, citing the country's purchase of Russian oil as the reason.
However, according to reports from The New York Times and Reuters, India continues to buy oil from Russia despite US pressure.
At the UN session in September, Trump called China and India the "main sponsors" of the conflict in Ukraine and called on G7 countries to impose tariffs of up to 100% on these countries.
Regarding this situation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said: "If India refuses, it will harm itself. This could be a loss of 9–10 billion dollars. If it does not refuse, it will face high tariffs in the form of sanctions.
