At least 22 people have been killed as a result of wild elephant attacks in the state of Jharkhand, located in eastern India. This was reported by local officials and foreign media.
It is reported that the elephant attacks occurred between January 1 and 9 in the Chaibasa and Kolhan forest areas of the West Singhbhum district. A single-tusked wild elephant roamed through forests and villages, trampling people it encountered along the way. The animal has not yet been captured.
According to local forest service data, a high alert has been declared in the area, and over 100 specialists have been mobilized to locate the elephant and return it to nature safely. Officials announced that material assistance will be provided to the victims' families.
Experts link the elephant's aggression to the mating season. It is emphasized that this situation usually subsides within a few weeks.
