The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is planning to send tens of thousands of military personnel to the region as part of its new "Arctic Guardian" mission. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced this.
According to him, tens of thousands of alliance troops will participate in exercises conducted under the initiative. Among them, the "Arctic Endurance" exercise conducted by Denmark in Greenland and the "Cold Response" exercise in Norway will also be part of this process. It is noted that these exercises were planned in advance, regardless of NATO's new mission.
"I cannot disclose all the details, otherwise I would have overly informed circles in Moscow and Beijing. In our assessment, Russia and China are showing great interest in this region," said Mark Rutte.
According to the Secretary General, the main goal of the initiative is to limit Russia and China's access to Greenland and its economic resources.
