A number of foreign media outlets, including Middle East Eye and other sources, have reported that the United States and Israel may be discussing the possibility of changing or revising Jordan's historical custodianship over the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem.
According to the reports, a new system may be introduced to replace the current Islamic Waqf administration. It is mentioned that under this system, Al-Aqsa could be turned into a "multi-faith center," potentially allowing broader access for Jews and even communal prayer.
Additionally, some sources have claimed that within the framework of the new structure, there could be changes in matters such as the appointment of imams and khatibs, as well as the content of Friday sermons.
According to media reports, this initiative is also linked to individuals associated with certain U.S. political circles, including Jared Kushner and the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee. It is said that within the framework of the plan, the option of rotating management of the compound among some Arab states has also been discussed.
However, Jordanian officials have denied these claims, emphasizing that the custodianship over Jerusalem is enshrined in international agreements and will not change.
