US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon have reached an agreement not to attack each other. TRT Haber reported this.
Trump made this statement on his social media page after a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to him, the conversation with Netanyahu went well. The US leader said that Israeli troops would not be sent into Beirut, and if the operation had already started, they were withdrawn.
Trump also said that indirect communication was conducted with Hezbollah.
"They also agreed to stop all clashes. Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel," Trump said.
Additionally, in an interview with CNBC, the US President said that the fate of negotiations with Iran does not worry him much, and that he will consult with Benjamin Netanyahu again regarding the situation between Israel and Lebanon.
Earlier, Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency announced that Tehran had stopped the exchange of messages with Washington through mediators.
According to reports, Iran justified this decision by the continuation of Israeli military operations in Lebanese territory. Tehran demands that Israel stop the attacks and withdraw from the occupied territories in order to resume dialogue.
It is also reported that Iran is considering the possibility of closing the Strait of Hormuz and increasing pressure measures in other directions, including the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
