Amid reports of Pakistan's possible military intervention in Afghanistan, the Taliban administration in Kabul is also actively acting on security issues.
In particular, at the end of May, acting Afghan Defense Minister Mullah Yaqoob attended an international security forum held in Moscow. During the visit, he held a series of important meetings with Russian officials.
According to sources, one of the main results of the negotiations was an agreement on military-technical cooperation between Russia and Afghanistan. It is noted that Kabul is considering the possibility of purchasing modern air defense systems and unmanned aerial vehicles — drones from Moscow.
This step is seen as a response to Pakistan's new military approach aimed at striking targets on Afghan territory. The Taliban administration has realized the need to quickly strengthen defense capabilities against the possibility of Pakistani Air Force and drones entering the country's airspace.
Thus, the geopolitical situation in the region is becoming increasingly complex. While Pakistan seeks to reach agreements with Beijing on counter-terrorism operations, Afghanistan is trying to deepen military cooperation with Moscow.
According to observers, these processes indicate the intensification of new geopolitical competition and arms race trends in the region where Central and South Asia converge.
