Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he has familiarized himself with an open letter sent by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
According to Putin, the letter was shown to him by Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov.
“Peskov mentioned this yesterday. I hadn’t had time to see it then. This morning he brought the document again, and I read it. It is written smoothly,” the Russian leader said.
It became known that on June 4, Zelensky sent an open letter to Putin, stating his readiness to hold direct negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. He also proposed organizing a personal meeting between the two heads of state and setting a specific date.
Putin, commenting on the issue of holding a meeting with Zelensky, said he currently sees no point in it.
“First, a solution must be found,” he said.
The Russian president also responded to Zelensky’s remarks about his age, emphasizing that the main issue is not a person’s age but their work capacity and effectiveness.
In his letter, Zelensky called on the Russian leader to stop the war, stating that if Moscow is not ready for this, Ukraine will continue its struggle for independence and existence.
Since the start of the war, the issue of direct dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow has been on the agenda several times, but the parties have so far failed to reach an agreement on resolving the conflict through political means.
