The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has reported that the ongoing Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda is the fourth largest outbreak recorded since 1976. Zamon.uz reported this, citing foreign publications.

According to the organization, in terms of the number of cases and deaths, this outbreak ranks among the largest Ebola clusters in history. Africa CDC assesses the situation as "extremely serious."

According to the latest data, 397 cases of Ebola virus infection have been confirmed in the two countries. At least 63 people have died as a result of the disease.

To identify the chain of transmission of the epidemic and prevent new cases, nearly 10,000 contact persons have been placed under medical observation. Of these, 4,341 were recorded in the Democratic Republic of Congo and 5,009 in Uganda.

Experts state that the widespread outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain. There is currently no confirmed vaccine or specific treatment method against this strain.

Therefore, isolating patients, restoring fluid balance in the body, symptomatic treatment, and palliative care aimed at reducing pain are being applied as the main measures.

Africa CDC emphasizes that the lack of specific therapy complicates the fight against the epidemic. For this reason, continuous monitoring of patients' conditions and strengthening supportive treatment measures are crucial in reducing fatalities.
