Russia's unmanned aerial vehicle struck a facility for storing spent nuclear fuel in Chernobyl. This was reported by Ukraine's Energoatom company.
According to the report, the incident occurred on the night of June 7. As a result of the strike, the building for receiving containers was partially destroyed. However, it was noted that no spent nuclear fuel was stored in this building at the time of the attack.
A fire broke out at the scene over an area of 40 square meters. The fire was extinguished in a short time. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties, and the radiation level around the facility did not exceed the norm.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the facility was struck by a drone of the Shahed type. He emphasized that this facility is considered critical infrastructure.
According to Zelenskyy, information about the incident is being provided to international partners. While he stated that no changes in the radiation background were recorded, he sharply criticized Russia's actions.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, in turn, stated that threats to nuclear security from Moscow continue and called on the international community to increase pressure on Russia.
Russian officials have not yet issued an official comment on this incident.
