One of the daughters of King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand, Princess Bajrakitiyabha, passed away on the evening of June 11. This was announced by the Royal Palace.
It was reported that the princess died as a result of a sharp deterioration in her health. She had been in a coma for the past nearly four years.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha lost consciousness due to a heart-related illness in December 2022 while visiting Nakhon Ratchasima Province. She was then airlifted by helicopter to Bangkok and hospitalized.
According to the Royal Palace, her condition worsened in subsequent years due to an abdominal infection, colitis, low blood pressure, heart rhythm disturbances, and blood clotting issues.
Known among the people as “Princess Pa,” Bajrakitiyabha was born on December 7, 1978, to then-Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and his first wife, Princess Soamsavali.
She studied law at Cornell University in the United States, earning master’s and doctoral degrees. From 2006 to 2011, she worked as a lawyer in the Thai Attorney General’s Office system.
Additionally, from 2012 to 2014, she served as Thailand’s ambassador to Austria, Slovenia, and Slovakia. Later, she returned to the prosecutor’s office system.
The princess was also known for her charitable initiatives aimed at protecting the rights of women in prison, particularly pregnant inmates.
In 2017, she was appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for rule of law issues in Southeast Asia by the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
In 2021, the princess transitioned to military service, attaining the rank of general, and served as Chief of Staff of the Royal Security Command.
Bajrakitiyabha was one of three children of King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand who held official status and had the right to be heir to the throne in accordance with the country’s Constitution.
The Royal Palace announced that the farewell and funeral ceremonies for the princess would be conducted at the state level. A period of national mourning is also expected to be declared.
