If Russia raises the price of gas, Armenia may withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was announced by the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Alen Simonyan.
He emphasized that he does not believe such a situation will arise. "Such talk regarding goods and gas prices is not new. If such a decision is made, Armenia will make its own decision and withdraw from the CSTO and the EAEU. But in my opinion, the matter will not reach that point, because there is good and effective communication between the leaders," Simonyan said at a briefing.
According to him, he was referring to the meeting in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and noted that such issues are usually discussed in open dialogue between state leaders.
He added: "We have not done and will not do anything against Russia. But the protection of Armenia's interests will continue," he said.
It should be recalled that it was announced that Armenia's participation in the CSTO was frozen in 2024 and there is no plan for a full return in 2025. The disagreement with Russia and the CSTO emerged after the military clashes in Nagorno-Karabakh. However, the organization, where Moscow plays a leading role, has limited itself only to expressing "concern" and "condolences."
