With the amendments being introduced to the Criminal Code in Uzbekistan, criminal liability measures for illegal interference in the process of resolving court cases are being further clarified. This was discussed in a draft law reviewed at the 16th plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis on June 13.
It is noted that consistent reforms are being implemented in the country to ensure the independence of the judiciary, increase trust in fair justice, and further enhance the transparency of the judicial system. Nevertheless, in practice, instances of external influence and interference in judicial activities are observed in some cases.
For this reason, with the new law, the norms of liability for illegal interference in court cases are being clearly and strictly defined in the Criminal Code. Additionally, amendments are being made to the Code on Administrative Liability, tightening administrative measures for violations of order in court buildings and acts of disrespect toward the court.
During the discussions, it was noted that the draft law had previously been sent back to the Legislative Chamber for revisions and was improved based on the objections received. The document primarily retains norms aimed at ensuring judicial independence.
The senators approved this law.
Let us recall that earlier it was reported that a Compliance Control Service would be established within the Supreme Court to prevent corruption in the judicial apparatus.
