On June 13, the Senate plenary session approved a law aimed at improving legislation in the field of fighting corruption.
According to the document, the term "corruption-related crimes" is introduced into the Criminal Code, and a clear list of crimes falling under this category is established. According to the initiators, this will serve to eliminate various interpretations and terminological confusion in practice.
Also, the application of early conditional release from punishment is being prohibited for persons convicted of crimes of receiving a bribe, giving a bribe, and mediating in bribery.
The law also increases liability for fraud committed using official position. In particular, under Article 168 of the Criminal Code, this act is transferred to a more serious category, and the maximum prison term is increased from 8 to 10 years.
In addition, stricter liability measures are being established for crimes related to bribing an employee of a non-state or private organization.
According to the law, the commission of a number of crimes with "mercenary intentions" is assessed as an aggravating circumstance.
Sanctions are also being strengthened in the field of public procurement. Within the framework of the document, amendments were also made to the law "On the Accounts Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan", and some supervisory powers were abolished.
Also, amendments introduced to the Code of Administrative Liability provide for strengthening penalties for violations in public procurement and the budget system.
