A small plane carrying six people crashed onto a highway in the U.S. state of Texas. At least one person was killed as a result of the incident.
According to the Associated Press, the incident occurred on June 16 near the city of Laredo. The plane had taken off from Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico and crashed while attempting to land at Laredo International Airport.
After the crash, the aircraft came to rest on its side at the edge of the highway, and a strong fire broke out. Witnesses said drivers abandoned their vehicles and ran to the scene to rescue those on the plane. Some attempted to break the cabin window to pull out those trapped inside.
According to preliminary information, three teenagers and the pilot on board managed to get out. Efforts were also made to rescue another unconscious passenger.
Officials reported that at least one person was killed in the incident, and several others sustained injuries of varying degrees. It is not yet clear whether the deceased was someone inside the plane or a person on the ground.
Some police officers and firefighters who took part in rescue operations during the incident were hospitalized with symptoms of smoke poisoning.
Preliminary speculation suggests that a technical malfunction may have caused the crash. An official investigation into the incident is currently underway.
