Iranian singer Parastou Ahmadi and eight members of her team were found guilty of creating and distributing "indecent and immoral content" and sentenced to 74 lashes. This was reported by The Guardian.
According to reports, in addition to the lashing sentence, the criminal court of Qom province also imposed a two-year travel ban and a one-year ban on engaging in creative activities against them.
The sentence resulted from the singer performing the song "Az Khune Javanone Vatan" ("From the Blood of the Youth of the Homeland") without a hijab during a live broadcast in December 2024. The video spread widely on social media and was viewed nearly three million times on YouTube.
Following the broadcast, Parastou Ahmadi and several musicians were briefly arrested and later released. Subsequently, Iranian authorities launched a criminal investigation into the distribution of the video.
Bahar Ghandihari, a representative of the US-based Center for Human Rights in Iran, stated that this ruling is further evidence that the human rights situation in the country remains unchanged.
Iranian lawyer Moin Khazaeli noted that the country's legislation does not define women singing, performing music, or creating musical works as a crime.
For reference, in 2025, another Iranian singer was also sentenced to 74 lashes for a song criticizing restrictions on women's clothing.
