The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed again for ship traffic. Tehran explains this decision by the violation of the terms of the peace agreement by the US and Israel. Reuters reported this.
According to reports, this decision was made a few days after the interim peace agreement signed on June 18 between US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. This agreement was intended to end armed confrontations that had lasted nearly four months.
The IRGC statement emphasized that ships approaching the Strait of Hormuz may be at risk. Tehran cites Israel's military operations in southern Lebanon and Washington's failure to fulfill its obligations under the agreement as the main reasons.
At the same time, US Vice President JD Vance announced that he would travel to Switzerland in the coming days to participate in negotiations with Iran. According to him, the agreement between the parties is still in effect, and Washington stated that there is no clear evidence confirming the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to information, US special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are already in Switzerland, discussing the technical aspects of the negotiations. The Iranian Foreign Ministry has also confirmed that its delegation has set out for the talks.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important energy corridors in the world. A large portion of global oil and liquefied gas trade passes through it. The closure of this corridor could put serious pressure on the global energy market, leading to rising oil prices and increasing the risk of inflation.
