Today, on June 24, a ceremony for the opening of international events took place in connection with the declaration of the city of Andijan as the “Cultural Capital of the Turkic World” in 2026. On this occasion, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, sent congratulations to the participants of the event.
In his address, the head of state assessed the selection of the city of Andijan for this status as an international recognition of Uzbekistan's rich history, cultural and spiritual heritage, and its contribution to the development of Turkic civilization.
In his congratulations, the President emphasized that Andijan has been one of the centers of culture, literature, art, and craftsmanship for centuries. It was noted that this land gave rise to great statesmen and creators such as Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur and Abdulhamid Cholpon.
Furthermore, the “Andijan Polka” dance and the art of askiya, which have become an integral part of national culture, were recognized not only as Uzbekistan's but also as the common spiritual wealth of the entire Turkic world.
In the address, cooperation between Uzbekistan and the International Organization of Turkic Culture — TURKSOY was especially noted. In particular, it was mentioned that the 100-volume collection “Gems of Turkic Literature,” which compiles the finest literary heritage of Turkic peoples, has been published, and that a TURKSOY representative office was opened in April this year at the Center of Islamic Civilization in Tashkent.
According to the President, festivals, scientific conferences, creative meetings, and cultural events to be held over the course of a year within the framework of the “Andijan — Cultural Capital of the Turkic World” project will serve to further strengthen the bonds of friendship among brotherly peoples.
