The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan — the Jogorku Kenesh — approved in three readings amendments to the constitutional law concerning the procedure for holding presidential and parliamentary elections. Zamon.uz reported this.

According to reports, the legislative initiative was put forward by the President of the country, which provides for clearly defining the timing and procedure for holding presidential elections.

According to the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan, Tinchtik Shainazarov, the amendments were developed to bring the current legislation in line with the requirements of the Constitution and to clearly determine the election date.

According to the new procedure, presidential elections are held every seven years on the fourth Sunday of January. Also, the voting date must be officially announced at least four months in advance.

Based on these changes, the next presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan are planned to be held on January 24, 2027.

According to the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Marlen Mamataliev, the new procedure will help increase voter turnout and organize the voting process more effectively.

The draft law will now be sent to the President of Kyrgyzstan for signature. The document will enter into force after being signed by the head of state and officially published.
