The US Supreme Court has granted the administration of President Donald Trump's request to strip hundreds of thousands of immigrants from Haiti and Syria of their temporary legal protection status. NBC News reported this.
According to the report, on June 25, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Trump administration by a vote of 6 to 3 on this matter. This ruling allows the continuation of the process to revoke the temporary protected status of approximately 350,000 Haitian citizens and 6,000 Syrian citizens. As a result, they may be deported.
NBC News notes that this ruling could accelerate the Trump administration's efforts to eliminate similar protection programs for citizens of other countries as well.
According to a TASS agency report, following the court's decision, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller stated that the US is effectively halting the acceptance of foreigners seeking political asylum.
"Thus, America's doors will be completely closed to those seeking political asylum. We have reached such agreements that if you seek political asylum, we will find another country that will take you. This is a very simple, very effective, and complete solution," Miller said.
