U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington has declared a one-week pause in the ongoing negotiations with Iran due to the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. This was reported by Zamon.uz, citing foreign sources. reported.
He mentioned this during a speech at an event marking U.S. Independence Day near Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.
“They really want an agreement. We gave them a week for the funeral,” Trump said.
However, the U.S. President did not fully confirm that the negotiations have been officially halted or that a specific pause has been declared. His statement came against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Earlier, citing sources, The Wall Street Journal reported that the possibility of the negotiations exceeding a 60-day period is not viewed as a serious problem by the U.S. side.
The farewell ceremonies for Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei began in Tehran on July 3. The main funeral rites are scheduled to take place from July 4 to July 9 in several cities across the country, with the final ceremony to be held in the city of Mashhad.
