Croatian national team legend, midfielder Luka Modric has ended his career with the national team. Insider Fabrizio Romano reported this.
According to him, after the Portugal vs. Croatia match, Cristiano Ronaldo went up to Modric and paid his respects to him. This was the footballer's last game for the national team.
"At the end of the match, Ronaldo went up to Modric and showed him respect. That was his last game for the national team. Two legends. Respect," wrote Romano.
He made his debut for the national team in March 2006, and during that time, he participated in 200 matches, scoring 27 goals and providing 29 assists.
At the same time, Modric became the fourth footballer in world football history to surpass the 200-game mark. Before him, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Bader Al-Mutawa achieved this result.
The Portugal vs. Croatia match, which was part of the World Cup round of 16, ended with a score of 2:1 in favor of the Portuguese. In the match held at BMO Field stadium in Toronto, Modric played the full 90 minutes. Ronaldo scored a penalty in the 68th minute and left the field after the game. This match was also memorable for Modric's significant historical achievements with the Croatian national team.
