The number of deaths from two powerful earthquakes that occurred in Venezuela on the night of June 25 has reached nearly 3,000 people. This was announced by the speaker of the country's parliament, Jorge Rodriguez.
According to him, at least 2,954 people died as a result of the natural disaster, and more than 16,592 people were injured to varying degrees.
Despite ten days having passed since the earthquakes, thousands of people are still considered missing. International rescue teams are gradually completing search and rescue operations among the rubble.
According to AFP, the most critical period for rescuing those trapped under rubble alive in such disasters is usually the first 72 hours.
Witnesses say that in the first hours after the earthquake, before rescuers arrived, local residents were forced to clear the rubble themselves to search for their loved ones.
