Tashkent has become the third city with the highest cost of living among Central Asian cities. This was reported in the cost of living ranking by the international platform Numbeo.
According to the ranking, the capital of Uzbekistan ranked in the region only after Kazakhstan's cities of Almaty and Astana. The study covered 547 major cities worldwide.
Numbeo's assessment uses the cost of living in New York as the main benchmark, assigning it 100 points. In Tashkent, the cost of living index stands at 31.2 points. This means that the overall price level in the capital is nearly 70 percent lower than in New York.
The study takes into account housing rent, food, transport, restaurants, utilities, and other daily expenses. In Tashkent, the housing rent index is 13.5 points, while the food cost index is 35.2 points.
According to Numbeo data, the monthly expenses of a family of four in Uzbekistan, excluding rent, are estimated at an average of 22.3 million soums, while for a single person, it is around 6.1 million soums.
In the global ranking, the most expensive city is Zurich, Switzerland. It is followed by Georgetown, Lucerne, Basel, and Geneva.
