The head of state participated in a ceremony organized on the occasion of Remembrance and Appreciation Day. Following tradition, the President laid a wreath at the base of the “Matonat Madhiyasi” (Hymn of Valor) monument.
“Today, we express our special affection and respect to the war and labor veterans, and all our esteemed seniors who are living healthily among us. It would be correct to say that this complex is a sacred place that glorifies the courage and heroism of our multinational people, who made a worthy contribution to the great victory,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
According to data, nearly 2 million people from Uzbekistan, which at that time had a population of 6.8 million, participated in the battles against fascism. Of them, about 540,000 were killed, and 158,000 went missing. Furthermore, over 50,000 people died in concentration camps, and more than 60,000 returned disabled.
The event was attended by representatives of the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan, state and public organizations, community activists, and veterans, who laid flowers at the base of the monument.
Additionally, the President also visited the “Millat Fidoyilari” (Devotees of the Nation) alley and paid tribute to the memory of military personnel and law enforcement officers who died in the line of defending the country during the years of independence.
“It is no coincidence that a year ago we established the ‘Millat Fidoyilari’ complex in this area. It serves as a reminder that defending the Motherland is the sacred duty of every generation and that patriotic traditions are continuous,” said the head of state.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev also expressed gratitude to the parents who raised their children to be prepared to defend the Motherland, courageous, and patriotic.
