A large fire in the municipality of Drammen in southern Norway destroyed more than 100 houses, and hundreds of residents were evacuated to safe areas.
According to NRK reports, the fire started in the town of Krokstadelve on Friday afternoon. Initially breaking out in a single residence, the flames quickly spread to neighboring houses and surrounding areas.
At least three people, including one firefighter, were injured in the incident. Additionally, eight police officers suffered smoke poisoning.
According to Jan Helge Keyser, head of the Vestfold inter-municipal fire safety service, the fire was brought under control by the morning of July 18, but efforts to fully extinguish it are ongoing. Several fire pockets still remain in the area and in nearby forests.
Ten fire safety units were involved in the firefighting operations.
