According to the latest calculations in Uzbekistan, there are around 5-6 million people in need of social protection. However, the counting is not yet finished. This was announced by Dilfuza Rozmetova, the head of the press service of the National Agency for Social Protection under the President маълум қилди.
According to her, in just one day, 10-15 people contact Rozmetova herself asking for help. This alone indicates that there is a large number of people in the country who are in a poor social condition.
“The count has not yet reached its conclusion. Until now, among those identified as in need of social protection, there are 1 million 100 patients from low-income families, 1 million 176 people with disabilities, and over 18,000 elderly people in need of care from others,” she said.
Rozmetova added that previously, the system was fragmented, that is, the sector was handled by six different ministries. For this reason, some information about people in need of social protection was insufficient.
“Currently, a special platform is being created to maintain a separate registry for people in need of social protection. We have social workers in all our regions. With their help, we go door-to-door to determine whether the population needs social protection or not. This includes over ten categories such as people with disabilities, those in difficult situations or elderly living alone, children who have lost their guardians, or former prisoners,” she said.
