At the Senate's second plenary session, the law "On Amending Article 135 of the Criminal Code in Connection with Strengthening Punishments for the Crime of Human Trafficking" was discussed.
The systematic efforts being carried out to protect citizens' rights, freedoms, and legal interests, to combat human trafficking, and to comprehensively protect the victims of human trafficking were emphasized.
As a result, the work in the field of combating human trafficking has been systematized, and supporting the victims of this crime by the state and legally protecting Uzbekistan's citizens abroad has been raised to the level of state policy.
It was specifically noted that the punishment for committing the crime of human trafficking through kidnapping, using violence or threats of violence, or any other form of coercion is being strengthened.
In addition, during the discussion, it was noted that amendments are being proposed to the law to specify harsher punishment measures for those who commit the crime of human trafficking against pregnant women.
Senators noted that the implementation of this law would serve to prevent crimes related to human trafficking, to effectively combat them, to ensure proportional punishment measures for such crimes, and furthermore, to effectively protect the rights of children and women.
At the conclusion of the discussion, the law was approved by the senators.
